Feeding on Jesus - The Bread Of Life

Jesus said, ‘I am the Bread of Life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst’(John 6:35). Jesus had enemies - ‘The Jews then murmured at Him, because He said, “I am the bread which comes down from heaven”’(John 6:41). Christ’s enemies are still with us. They ‘murmur among themselves’(John 6:43). How are we to respond to this situation? We must feed on Jesus Christ, ‘the Living Bread’(John 6:51). Whatever difficulties we may face, the Lord provides for us: ‘You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies’(Psalm 23:5). We have His invitation: ‘O taste and see that the Lord is good!’(Psalm 34:8). With His provision and invitation, let us make our response: ‘We taste Thee, O Thou living Bread, and long to feast upon Thee still’(Church Hymnary, 571).

"God's Not Dead. He Is Alive." - "Our God Is Marching On."

In an earlier version of his notes on Genesis (written in 1960 and re-issued in 1970), George Philip offered a thought-provoking contrast between the first verse of Genesis - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1) and the final verse of Genesis - "Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And after they embalmed him, he was placed in a coffin in Egypt" (Genesis 50:26).

He calls us to "remember, it was Joseph who was in the coffin, and not God. God buries his workmen, but carries on His work."

Let's Stop Running Away From God.

Psalm 139:7-8

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

-----

We can run away from God, but we can't get away from Him!

Let's stop running away from God.

Even when we're "a great way off", He is running out to meet us (Luke 15:20).

He loved us long before we ever thought of loving Him - "When we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son" (Romans 5:10).

Keeping The Slate Clean

Just because something seems one way doesn't always mean that's the way it is. Yes, we can let things go and for a time it may appear as if it simply doesn't exist. Yet as time passes we find that it does exists.

Better to take care of unfinished business and keep the slate clean. Remember God's forgiveness is always available.

Prayer, Intercession, Giving Thanks

1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

1Ti 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not; a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

1Ti 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Those Cloudy Mucky Days

Sometimes life seems picture perfect and other times it seems cloudy and mucky. There are great days, good days and well those days that just seem to be going no where.

That's when taking a deep breath, re thinking things and simply taking a hard look at things helps put things into perspective.

It's always better to look at things with a clear mind, through clear eye's and less all the frustrations and emotions.

Breath Deeply!

" ... The World Is Ever Near ... But, Jesus, Draw Thou Nearer ... "

In Solomon, we see strength and weakness. He was strong - ‘the House of the Lord was completed’ (2 Chronicles 8:16). He was also weak. He was infatuated with foreign women, who did not belong among the redeemed people of God. He married ‘Pharaoh’s daughter’, a woman who had no love for ‘the holy places’ of worship (2 Chronicles 8:11). To the queen of Sheba, a woman who had more love for ‘her own land’ than for life among the people of God, ‘Solomon gave all that she desired’ (2 Chronicles 9:12). Solomon was a complicated man. He had a real love for the Lord, yet the world still had a strong hold on him. “O let me feel Thee near me: the world is ever near; I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear; My foes are ever near me, around me and within; but, Jesus, draw Thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin.’

Words That You Can Depend Upon

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Difficult Times Nationally

It seems that our nation is encountering some difficult and challenging times. Of course from a prophetic perspective the prophets are prophesying good times, seasons of abundance and so on. Yet when one looks at the seasons past, the current season and the seasons to come. One see's the word of God coming to pass.

Yes, times are difficult, challenging and the course is set.

Be wise saints of God, be wise. The prophetic time clock as mentioned in the Word of God is ticking.

The Model Of The Lord

Funny how human beings come up with models for various ministries within the body of Christ. These models usually come with rules, the precepts of men and are very religious, sometime almost cultish.

The model of the Lord however, is love and a basic understanding of that love through experience and application of the scriptures.

As We Worship God, We Receive Wisdom And Strength.

‘Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised’(Psalm 48:1). We worship God in the place of worship - ‘Within Your Temple, O God, we meditate on Your unfailing love’. Our worship must not end there. We are to play our part in seeing that the praise of the Lord ‘reaches to the ends of the earth’. We are to ‘be glad’ in the Lord. We are to ‘rejoice’ in Him (Psalm 48:9-11). We must not keep this joy to ourselves. The Lord is ‘the joy of all the earth’. We must share His joy. We are to ‘tell the next generation’. How will they know if we do not tell them? Many are slow to come and worship the Lord. We must not be slow to witness for Him. Let’s remember God’s promise - ‘My Word...will not return to Me empty, but will...achieve the purpose for which I sent it’- and let’s say - ‘Here am I. Send me!’(Isaiah 55:11; Isaiah 6:8). ‘The Spirit came into me... Do not be afraid of them or their words’(Ezekiel 2:2,6). Through the Spirit, we receive wisdom - ‘We have received the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand what God has freely given us’- and strength - ‘God strengthens us with power through His Spirit in our inner being’(1 Corinthians 2::12; Ephesians 3:16). ‘Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart... Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word... Be Thou my Battleshield, sword for the fight’(Church Hymnary, 87).

The beauty of God's love, presence, peace, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, healing, and every other promise of God. It's free and Jesus already paid for it.

When God created the heaven's he painted the sky's with beauty. It is simply awing to look at the universe and see all that God has created. Endlessly beautiful, colorful and amazing. However God didn't stop there.

His Soon Return

Jesus is coming! It's been stated endless times over the last almost 2000 years and prior. Yet he came, lived a sinless live, died a ransomed for many, was resurrected and ascended to heaven.

Jesus is coming soon! I want to repeat that. Jesus is coming soon.

Now the question is, what do you believe? Is he coming soon? Are you watching for His return? Do you believe that the prophecies leading up to his second return have been fulfilled or are fast being fulfilled?

Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

The Holy Spirit Leads Us Into A Life Of Worship.

‘I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live’ (Psalm 104:33). Do you feel like giving up? Other things are becoming more important to you. Worshipping the Lord is being pushed out to the edge of your life. Wrong attitudes are creeping in. It starts with the idea, ‘Worship’s just an hour on a Sunday’. Then, it becomes, ‘I’ll worship the Lord when I feel like it’. It soon becomes, ‘I’ll worship the Lord when I’ve nothing better to do’. Before long, all desire for worshipping the Lord has gone! Little-by-little, you are drifting away from the Lord. It’s time to start thinking about what’s happening. It’s time for a new beginning. It’s time for an ‘all my life’ commitment to worshipping the Lord - not just on a Sunday, not only when I feel like it, not only ‘when there’s nothing better to do’!

Jesus At The Home of Martha And Mary

Jesus had a meal at the home of Martha and Mary. We can compare this meal to the Lord's Supper. Martha concentrated on the meal. Mary concentrated on the Lord. In the Lord's Supper, we have bread and wine. That's not all that we have. There's more than bread and wine. There's Jesus. Jesus came to the home of Martha and Mary. In Mary, we see what it means to come to the Lord. We are to come to Him with a deep desire to be near to Him. The Lord has come to us. Let us come to Him. Let us come to Him with humility, confessing that we have sinned against Him. Let us come to Him with thanksgiving, rejoicing that that our Lord Jesus Christ has borne our sins so that we might receive His salvation. Let us come to Him with a hungry heart, longing that we may be fed by Him. Let us come with dedication, committing our lives to the Lord that we might live as His disciples. Let us come to Him with praise, giving glory to the Lord for all that he has done for us. Let us do "the one thing needful": Come to Jesus Come to Him with humility, with thanksgiving, with a hungry heart, with dedication, with praise.

Jesus Loves You. Let His Love Change You.

As we read about Jesus, the centurion and the centurion's servant, we learn about love, faith and hope - the love of Jesus, the faith of the centurion and hope for the centurion's servant.
(1) The love of Jesus
In Jesus' miracles of healing, we see love. It is the greatest love of all. It is the love of God. Jesus loved the centurion. Jesus loved the centurion's servant. He loves you. He loves me. He loves us with a perfect love. He loves us with an everlasting love. His love changes us. We see this in the story the centurion and his servant. This is a story which invites us to be changed by the love of Jesus.

Human Love And Divine Love

When I am conducting a wedding service, I speak to the couple about two kinds of love - human love and divine love. I emphasize that our love for one another grows stronger when it is grounded in God's love for us. Jesus speaks about human love and divine love. he tells us that we are to "love our enemies" (Luke 6:27). He tells us that our love for our enemies is to be grounded in God's love for sinners: "The Most High is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful" (Luke 6:35-36). God has shown His love for us. We are to show His love to others. While we were His enemies - sinners who had rebelled against Him, He loved us and gave His Son to die on the cross for us as our Saviour.

Our Lack Of Love, Christ's Perfect Love

Matthew 5:38-48

The Pharisees lived by law. Jesus lived by love. The law of God - ‘holy and just and good’ (Romans 7:12) - had been distorted by the religious hypocrites. They were saying, ‘love your neighbour and hate your enemy’ (43). ‘Love your neighbour’ is found in Leviticus 19:18. ‘Hate your enemy’ is not found in the Old Testament. For the Jews, ‘neighbour’ meant their own kind. They wrongly concluded that Gentiles were to be hated. Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan makes it clear that we are to love our enemies as well as our friends (Luke 10:25-37). Jesus’ disagreement is not with the law of God. It is with man’s misuse of it. Jesus’ teaching is simple - Love is not to be limited. It is demanding - love is all-embracing. We dare not bring love within our reach. We always fall short. We can only come to Christ. Confessing our lack of love and trusting in His perfect love, we learn to love.
